Here is the Press Release that was distributed to the local media. I'll post the commercial running on the Point when I can remember how to do it!
Coffee Gives Trails a Boost
Eureka, CA - - Now the coffee you drink can do more than just boost your day, it can also give local trails a boost! If you love gourmet coffee, as many people do, the Trails Blend is a rich, medium-roast organic coffee now available on the shelves in your favorite local grocery store. And the best part is that each purchase supports trails in Humboldt County.
The Point / KWPT, 100.3 and 102.7 FM, has teamed up with local coffee experts, Kinetic Koffee, who specialize in personalized organic coffee blends for outdoor enthusiasts across the country and many blends benefit various outdoor and cycling groups or causes. The Point’s Trails Blend is a rich, medium roast organic coffee that benefits Trails Trust of Humboldt Bay – your voice for multi-use regional trails in Humboldt County.
“This was a perfect fit with our company’s mission while raising awareness of the outdoor. We are proud to be associated with Trails Trust and The Point,” said Mark Ritz, General Manager of Kinetic Koffee. Patrick Cleary, president of Lost Coast Communications is pleased to help out, “The Point is a big believer in making this a better community, and Kinetic Koffee makes it easy for us to come together for this benefit.” He quips, “Think of our blend as caffine-ation for your outdoor motivation!”
Mike Buettner, board president of the Trails Trust, notes “This coffee is a great opportunity to let folks know that there is a local organization dedicated to assisting in the development of a regional trail system and to raise funds for those efforts.” Trails Trust is the collective voice for about 250 members, as well as various agencies businesses, and organizations, which support the quality of life that comes from trail systems and pathways that connect communities and neighborhoods as well as other counties.
“There are always gaps in funding to get projects ready to compete for construction dollars,” explains board member Jennifer Rice, “and while the Trails Trust has limited funds we can leverage fundraisers, like Kinetic Koffee, and the collective voice of our membership to help entities get those funds in place.” She adds that the Trails Trust has been instrumental in working to bring millions of dollars to the county so membership is vital.
People in our county place a high value on non-motorized pathways and trails, especially in tough economic times when people need affordable, safe means of travel, so every bag of coffee sold is a way to help us achieve that vision,” concludes Rice. The most notable community trail is McKinleyville’s Hammond Trail. A recent trail project is the connection between the neighborhoods around Cooper’s Gulch where there is a park and school; formerly accessible only from busy Myrtle Avenue. An on-going trail project is Eureka’s Waterfront Trail spanning Eureka Slough all the way south to Elk River.
Look for The Point’s Trails Blend at Eureka Natural Foods, The Co-op in Arcata and Eureka, and other local outlets.
