Nicholas Patrick Spehar was born in Minneapolis, in the Fall of 1986 to Annette and Patrick Spehar.  He had one older sister, Marie and three young siblings, Luke, Jacob and Lisa.  Although Pat & Annette consider all of their children miracles, Nicholas became known as their “miracle child” because of his  traumatic birth.  Once Nick got out of the NICU, there was never a dull moment!  Nicholas approached life with great vigor and curiosity and truly lived every  moment to the fullest.  Nicholas was killed in action in  Wardak Province, Afghanistan on Extortion 17.

Nicholas led his life with dedication and integrity.  He had a deep Catholic faith.  Nicholas had a deep love for his family and his devotion to his parents and siblings were unparalleled.  He was an elite warrior earning the coveted position of Honor Man in both Naval Special Warfare Lead Breacher, and Sniper School.

He had a love for art, poetry and music.  The poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley was amongst his favorites.  He lived his life for love of God, family friends and country.  The family remembers the words of Nicholas when asked why he became a Navy SEAL, he answered, without hesitation—

    "I do it for you."
